Kali Matalon is Innovative Federal Strategies’ Legislative Director for Defense. Prior to joining the IFS team, Kali served the U.S. Senate for five years, including two years for Senator Jim Webb of Virginia and three years for the Senate Appropriations Committee.

Kali served as a Constituent Services Representative for Senator Webb from 2011 until the Senator’s retirement in 2013, at which time she joined the Appropriations Committee.

Kali served various roles on the Senate Appropriations Committee, starting as a staff assistant to the Defense Subcommittee, chaired by Senator Dick Durbin of Illinois. She was quickly promoted to Professional Staff and worked for the Full Appropriations Committee, chaired by Senator Barbara Mikulski of Maryland. Kali joined IFS in September 2015.

A graduate of George Washington University, Kali holds a master’s degree in Security Policy Studies from GW’s Elliott School of International Affairs. Her studies included coursework on defense policy and program analysis, international security policy, military history and strategy, and stabilization and development policy. Kali also holds a B.A. in Government and International Politics as well as a B.A. in Communication from George Mason University. An avid traveler, Kali has studied in Ireland and Australia and has traveled to more than twenty countries, including volunteer trips to Ghana and Honduras where she worked to promote youth access to education.
